Our History
The Tennessee Youth Symphony (TYS) is an accomplished youth orchestra that began its journey in 1996 as the Williamson County Youth Orchestra. As the orchestra expanded and its reach extended beyond Williamson County to students from all over Middle Tennessee, the name was fittingly changed to the Tennessee Youth Symphony in 2016.
Membership in TYS is a privilege for young musicians, providing them with numerous opportunities to not only hone their musical skills but also to develop socially. The orchestra offers a variety of enriching opportunities, including full orchestra performances, community performances, and educational experiences that foster musical growth, collaboration, and artistic excellence. TYS also boasts an extraordinary relationship with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and several area universities, allowing our musicians to work alongside symphony musicians, college professors, private instructors, and guest artists in sectional and master class settings.

TYS is always looking forward to new opportunities and growth. As the organization moves forward, it is excited to continue providing young musicians with a unique and enriching musical experience. With a deep commitment to developing the skills and talents of its members, the Tennessee Youth Symphony is enthusiastic about building on its storied history and creating a bright and vibrant future for young musicians across Middle Tennessee.
