And just like that the 2023-2024 season is off to a great start! With a whirlwind August full of back to school meetings, classes starting back up and audition videos recorded and zoom auditions scheduled the Tennessee Youth Symphony accepted over 120 extremely talented musicians in our family.
We welcomed back old friends and familiar faces and greeted more than a few new friends that we are happy to now call family.
Our season began on Sept 11th with a full house at our Parent Night. Our conductors shared a few words and then the musicians got to work while the parents got to learn about the ins and outs and needs and expectations of the organization. There was a buzz of activity when the meeting was done—questions, introductions and hanging out with old friends.
The musicians in each group showed their chops with an amazing first practice and gave us a glimpse of what our season is going to look like. The conductors commented on how well they all did with sight reading the first few pieces that will be performed at Belmont in December. With the second practice already under our belts, the groups sound more like it’s the end of October rather than the very beginning of the season!
On the parent end, we are bursting at the seams with volunteers and parents wanting to be involved! This is truly what sets TYS apart!—we are a family! We have truly special parents that are happy to pitch in and give back to the community. It’s a wonderful “problem” to have when you have so many people wanting to volunteer that you run out of jobs.
While auditions are winding down (we still have a few spots for trombone and brass and our Pop/Rock Band is still accepting positions) we invite you to mark your calendars for December 6th at 7:00. We will have our Winter Concert at McAffee Auditorium on the Belmont Campus. It will be an evening of beautiful music played by some truly talented young musicians! You will not be disappointed!!!
